MTOR and Alzheimer disease: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first article that (a) presents genome-wide significant SNPs associated with epigenetic age acceleration, (b) elucidates the underlying mechanism using cis-eQTL studies, (c) shows that the expression levels of one of the implicated genes (MLST8) increase with chronological age, (d) shows that epigenetic age relates to a subunit (MLST8) of both mTOR complexes and (e) shows a significant overlap between genes related to the epigenetic age of nervous tissue (cerebellum) and those implicated in AMD, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
