CRP and atherosclerosis: Some, such as C-reactive protein (CRP), appear to reflect general disease processes [2], [3], whereas a number of cytokines (such as IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, IL-17 and TNFα) are robustly associated with CVD and are thought to be actively involved in the inflammatory processes leading to atherosclerosis [4], [5].
