Therefore, we conducted a relatively large hospital-based case-control study of 1,100 gastric cancer patients and 1,144 cancer-free controls in an Eastern Chinese Population to evaluate associations between SNPs in the 5′ upstream regulatory, first intron or promoter regions of AKT1 and AKT2 and gastric cancer risk and performed additional experiments to unravel the underlying molecular mechanisms. The gene discussed is AKT2; the disease is gastric cancer.
