ACE and stroke disorder: Results collected between 1995 and 2011 from the community-based South London Stroke Register [139] showed that, in patients with ischemic strokes without a history of atrial fibrillation, there was a significantly reduced risk of cognitive impairment associated with the use of antihypertensives (relative risk, 0.7 for diuretics; 0.8 for angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; and 0.7 for their combination) when clinically indicated.
