The maximum joint sensitivity and specificity (Q∗ value) was 0.69 for NEC I, 0.76 for NEC II, and 0.84 for NEC III, and the area under curve (AUC) was 0.75, 0.82, and 0.91 for each stage, consistent with a moderate diagnostic accuracy of I-FABP for early diagnosis in NEC (Figure 5, Table 2). This evidence concerns the gene FABP2 and necrotizing enterocolitis.
