The pooled OR from 8 studies including 735 NSCLC and 708 normal lung tissues, is shown in Fig. 2A (OR = 5.45, 95% CI = 2.15-13.79, p = 0.0003), indicating that FHIT inactivation through hypermethylation plays an important role in the carcinogenesis of NSCLC. The gene discussed is FHIT; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
