Studies have shown that regulation of IL-22 is an important component of many diseases including graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) (Munneke et al., 2014), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), specifically Crohn's disease (Wolk et al., 2007; Schmechel et al., 2008; Souza et al., 2013), ulcerative colitis and the experimental model of ulcerative colitis dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis (Sugimoto et al., 2008) as well as acute polymicrobial sepsis (Weber et al., 2007). This evidence concerns the gene IL22 and ulcerative colitis.
