By applying the same criteria, the cumulative use of JUN, UBC, and MMP14 together with oral pathogenic bacteria-derived proteins (Gursoy et al., 2011) could be used as representative biomarkers of susceptibility to periodontitis for early intervention, if these central members are detectable in saliva from diseased individuals at the RNA or protein level (Kousvelari et al., 1990; Fábián et al., 2008; Cuevas-Córdoba and Santiago-García, 2014; Rall et al., 2015).
