In agreement with our results, serum irisin level was found to be significantly lower in patients with new-onset T2D compared with subjects with normal glucose tolerance, and increased irisin level was associated with reduced risk for T2D independent of BMI, renal function, diastolic blood pressure, HOMA-IR, and triglyceride levels [8]. This evidence concerns the gene FNDC5 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
