High expression of the lectin-like receptor, KLRG1, is thought to distinguish cells of the terminal effector fate at day 7 post-infection, whereas high expression of IL-7R is thought to distinguish memory precursor cells28; however, examination of these markers revealed no change in the percentage of aPKC-deficient T cells expressing high levels of either KLRG1 or IL-7R compared to wild-type control cells (Fig. 4c).
