Regarding the forms ofmuscular involvement, myopathy is defined as any muscle discomfort; rhabdomyolysisis characterized by muscle weakness, significant elevation of creatine phosphokinase(CPK), usually more than ten times the upper limit of normal, increased serumcreatinine, myoglobinuria and acute renal failure.(26) Despite rhabdomyolysis being unusual, it is themost serious adverse effect observed in the lipid-lowering therapy with statins andis potentially fatal.(26). This evidence concerns the gene PIK3C2A and acute kidney injury.
