On T-cell receptors Gal-3 binding to complex type N-glycans opposes antigen-dependent clustering and suppresses autoimmune disease [41,51], and in RPE cells we in a previous study observed clustering of the β1,6-branched complex-type N-glycans bearing Gal-3 ligands CD147 and α3β1 integrin upon addition of Gal-3 [28]. Here, LGALS3 is linked to autoimmune disease.
