Firstly, antibiotic treatment reduced the increase in pulmonary IL-17 producing γδ T cells of Cftrtm1UNC mice, an immune response to antibiotics which has been reported in a lung cancer model54, and this reduction in γδ T cells may have affected the airway response as Matsubara et al.55 have shown γδ T cells to be required for hyperresponsiveness to ozone challenge in mice.
