A recent view on how elevated levels of PKM2 would benefit proliferating tumor cells is based on the recent findings that PKM2, but not PKM1, can translocate to the nucleus and act both as a protein kinase and as transcriptional coactivator for hypoxia-inducible factor alpha (HIF-1α) in HeLa cervical carcinoma cells [12]. The gene discussed is PKM; the disease is neoplasm.
