Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are abundant amino acids in plasma (Stein and Moore, 1954; Meister, 1965), and growth of wild type IDH glioma, subgroup of brain tumors with poorest clinical treatment, is highly associated with expression of branched-chain amino acid transaminase 1 (BCAT1; Yan et al., 2009; Tönjes et al., 2013). The gene discussed is BCAT1; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
