In human genetic studies, a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in DISC1 intron 9 (rs821577) has shown female-specific associations with anxiety, depression and neuroticism in elderly Scottish subjects58, and with schizophrenia in a Japanese population59, while another DISC1 intron 9 SNP (rs2295959) has shown female-specific association with schizophrenia in Han Chinese subjects60. This evidence concerns the gene DISC1 and depressive disorder.
