CD4 and diabetes mellitus: Factors associated with increased all-cause mortality in multivariate models included age (aHR 1.14, 95% CI 1.05, 1.23; p = 0.002), annual income of $12,000 or less (aHR 1.33, 95% CI 1.03, 1.72; p = 0.029), current smoking (aHR 1.51, 95% CI 1.09, 2.10; p = 0.01),), depressive symptom burden (aHR 1.58, 95%CI 1.24, 2.01; p = 0.0002), diabetes mellitus (aHR 1.71, 95% CI 1.14, 2.56; p = 0.009), and HCV infection (aHR 1.52, 95% CI 1.18, 1.98; p = 0.002), in addition to pre-HAART and peak HIV RNA viral load, and pre-HAART CD4+ count below 200cells/mm3 (aHR 2.41, 95% CI 1.78, 3.26; p<0.0001).
