Based on the predicted gene targets of these deregulated miRNAs, functional enrichment analysis identified 110 molecular pathways including apoptosis, transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ) signaling, fibrosis and stellate cell activation, regulation of endothelial-mesenchymal transition, IGF-1 and insulin signaling, extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK)/MAPK pathway, and cholestasis, which are potentially associated with NAFLD pathogenesis [67]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
