On the basis of these findings, it has been suggested that the CDKN2B/CDKN2B-AS1 locus of 9p21 may possibly predispose a person to glaucomatous optic neuropathy in a mechanism that may not be dependent on IOP and highlights the importance of the chromosome 9p21 susceptibility locus as a risk factor in the development of POAG [114].
