Assessment of prognostic factors in patients with metastatic RCC (mRCC) treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapies led to a slightly different model (7), known as the International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium model, in which neutrophilia and thrombocytosis are also considered independent prognostic factors, and has been recently validated; patients in the favorable, intermediate, and poor-risk groups had a median OS of 43.2, 22.5, and 7.8 months, respectively (8). This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and hereditary clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
