In the Nurses' Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, a functional variant T87C polymorphism in the FABP4 promoter resulted in reduced adipose FABP4 messenger ribonucleic acid expression and was associated with reduced risk for metabolic dyslipidaemia, type 2 diabetes and coronary atherosclerosis(9). This evidence concerns the gene FABP4 and coronary atherosclerosis.
