KDM2A demethylates histone H3 residues, i.e. Nε-mono- and dimethyllysine-36 (H3K36me1/2),9 and has a role in cellular differentiation,10 regulation of NF-κB11 and cell proliferation.12,13 KDM2A is overexpressed in some non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs); knockdown of KDM2A with siRNA has been shown to reduce the proliferation of KDM2A-overexpressing NSCLC cell-lines indicating that KDM2A activity may promote proliferation of NSCLCs.13 The gene discussed is KDM2A; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
