At a molecular level mesothelioma is characterised by genetic loss and loss of function of tumour suppressor genes; most commonly cdkn2a and b (encoding p16, p15 and p14 cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor genes); NF2 (neurofibromatosis gene), BAP-1 (BRAC-1 associated protein, an ubiquitase) and LATS-2 [8–10]. This evidence concerns the gene LATS2 and mesothelioma.
