A loss of CD4 T cells producing IL-17 in HIV infectedindividuals has been previously described [34,35].Our data indicate that the decline ofPD-1highCTLA-4lowCD127high EI CD4 T cells, mediated,at least in part, by increased susceptibility to HIV infection, could contribute to theloss of IL-17+ CD4 T cells even at a very early step of CD4 T cell differentiation.Similarly, we observed that this phenotype overlaps with a circulating“TFH” phenotype, which was decreased in HIV-infectedsubjects, consistent with our previous study [31]. Here, CD4 is linked to HIV infectious disease.
