NFAT5 and ischemia: It was reported that reactive oxygen species (ROS), a component of oxidative stress, contributed to transactivation of TonEBP, and the activation of TonEBP was associated with suppression of ROS formation.32 In our study, the knockdown of TonEBP led to ROS accumulation during ischemia, whereas TonEBP overexpression mitigated the oxidative effect of ischemia and H2O2, supporting TonEBP an anti-oxidative stress molecule.
