Indeed, the importance of OXR1 and related TLDc domain-containing genes has been emphasized by the discovery that their disruption or deletion can result in a reduced lifespan in Caenorhabditis elegans (13), Anopheles gambiae (11), Drosophila (30), and mice (8) or cause a range of inherited human neurological disorders (20, –, 22, 26, 44, –, 46).
