SLC22A1 and fatty liver disease: In the present study, we report that the solute carrier (SLC) organic cation transporter (OCT) 1 (SLC22A1), known to play a major role in membrane transport of marketed drugs like metformine in the liver [26] and also recently identified as a high-capacity thiamine transporter that regulates hepatic steatosis [27], is markedly inhibited by Ro 31–8220 in a PKC-independent manner.
