HNF4A and hepatocellular carcinoma: It has been reported that miR-122 loss leads to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in knockout mice [41]; this implies that the Stat 3–HNF4α-mediated short-term suppression of miR-122 leads to viral clearance, whereas long-term activation of Jak–Stat signaling increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma.
