Two randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the Diabetes Aerobic and Resistance Exercise (DARE) study [11] and the Health benefits of Aerobic and Resistance Training in individuals with type 2 Diabetes (HART-D) study [12], have demonstrated that combined aerobic and resistance training is more effective than either one alone in reducing hemoglobin (Hb) A1c in patients with type 2 diabetes. This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
