Human genetic studies have linked germline singlenucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of TNFAIP3 with susceptibility to multiple human diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, type 1 diabetes, coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, coronary artery disease in type 2 diabetes, and systemic sclerosis (15). This evidence concerns the gene TNFAIP3 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
