Wågsäter et al. [36] investigated several MMPs, other proteases and TIMP-1, and found that only MMP-2 and MMP-9 were involved in atherogenesis in Ldlr−/−Apob100/100 mouse model which had a plasma lipoprotein profile similar to that of humans with atherosclerosis. The gene discussed is MMP2; the disease is atherosclerosis.
