Recently small-molecule BCL-2 inhibitors (ABT-737 etc) and FASN inhibitors such as cerulenin, C75 and orlistat have been shown to induce apoptosis in breast cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo but heterogeneity of tumor and complexity of signalling pathways remains a major hurdle for effective cancer therapy. This evidence concerns the gene BCL2 and breast carcinoma.
