In a study by Frank [34], two polymorphisms (rs8094315 and rs12457893) within a B-cell CLL/lymphoma 2 (BCL2) gene and a single polymorphism (rs2093266) in a serpin peptidase inhibitor, clade A (alpha-1 antiproteinase, antitrypsin) member 4 (SERPINA4) gene were found to protect from AKI, and a polymorphism (rs625145) in salt-inducible kinase 3 (SIK3) gene was found to be associated with increased risk for AKI. The gene discussed is SIK3; the disease is acute kidney injury.
