Research indicated that CASP7 is involved in regulating microglia activation, and knockdown or chemical inhibition of it hindered microglia activation and consequently reduced neurotoxicity, while activation of microglia and inflammation-mediated neurotoxicity are speculated to play a decisive role in the pathogenesis of several neurodegenerative disorders such as AD, MS, and PD [50, 52].
