To test whether the changes in metabolite and transcript levels identified in NAF-1(−) cells (Fig. 5) indeed resulted in a further shift of NAF-1(−) cells toward dependency on glycolysis compared to control breast cancer cells, we grew MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 control and NAF-1(−) cells in the presence or absence of the glycolysis inhibitor 2-deoxy-d-glucose (2-DG).
