RBFOX3 and Cognitive impairment: Given the cognitive impairments and seizure susceptibility observed in individuals with RBFOX3 mutations, along with the likely importance of RBFOX3 in neuronal maturation, we reasoned that the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus might be particularly affected by genetic disruption of RBFOX3. The dentate gyrus (DG) is relatively unique in the brain, as dentate granule neurons are generated continuously throughout life from neural progenitor cells in the subgranular zone.
