APOE and atherosclerosis: In this study, we explore the potential mechanisms by which the dysbiosis mediated by oral polybacterial infection with periodontal pathogens P. gingivalis, T. denticola, T. forsythia and the “bridging bacterium” F. nucleatum initiates periodontal disease spreads through the vasculature, elevates systemic inflammatory burden, and promotes atherosclerosis in a hyperlipidemic ApoE-/- mouse.
