Since the results in the first part of experiment show that the MYC proto-oncogene is extremely potent in initiating hematopoietic cancer, we deleted MYC-related genes from the library to further elucidate leukemogenic proto-oncogene combinations that might have been obscured in the presence of MYC. The eight mice transplanted with bone marrow cells transduced with MYC-deleted proto-oncogene retroviral cDNA library all succumbed to myeloid leukemia within eight weeks of transplantation (Fig 4). The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is myeloid leukemia.
