Simultaneous with the recent upsurge of neuroscience research on LHb function, it has become clear that this region is of interest for its relevance in multiple psychiatric disorders including addiction, depression (Lecca et al., 2014; Proulx et al., 2014), and to a lesser extent, aspects of bipolar disorder (Savitz et al., 2011), schizophrenia (Shepard et al., 2006), and Parkinson’s Disease (Luo et al., 2015). This evidence concerns the gene LHB and major depressive disorder.
