Women with ApoE4 experience greater gross hippocampal pathology, more severe memory deficit, lower cognitive scores, lower hippocampal volumes, more senile plaque, and higher spinal fluid levels of tau, along with a higher risk for AD than men (Bretsky et al., 1999; Corder et al., 2004; Fleisher et al., 2005; Lehmann et al., 2006; Damoiseaux et al., 2012; Altmann et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
