NSUN2 and Intellectual disability: Intriguingly, it has been shown that lack of NSun2 in mice leads to fragmentation of tRNAs which may trigger stress responses and apoptosis in the brain (Blanco et al., 2014) and also a reduction in global translation rates (Tuorto et al., 2012), although the degree to which such a mechanism might contribute to the observed intellectual disability phenotypes remains unknown.
