It has recently been reported that the protein encoded by p53 (TP53) interacts with sterol regulatory element-binding proteins (SREBPs) and guanidinoacetate N-methyltransferase (GAMT) resulting in the elevated expression of enzymes involved in fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis and the inhibition of fatty acid oxidation leading to lipid anabolism and accelerated tumor growth and progression15. This evidence concerns the gene GAMT and neoplasm.
