Of the 16 genes up-regulated in type II males, six have known roles in the inner ear, including two genes associated with deafness (polycystin/polycystic kidney disease 1, myosin XV), and a putative component of the mechanotransduction channel, transmembrane channel-like protein-2 (TMC2) [40–43]. The gene discussed is MYO15A; the disease is deafness.
