Several mucin (MUC) glycoproteins have been shown to be overexpressed during cancer (Torres et al., 2012) and have therefore been targeted in cancer vaccines, including MUC1 (Kimura and Finn, 2013), MUC4 (Cai et al., 2015), MUC5AC (Zhu et al., 2009), and MUC16 (Reinartz et al., 2003). This evidence concerns the gene MUC1 and cancer.
