The strongest genetic correlation is with body mass index (BMI; rg=−0.34, P=4.6 × 10−104); further inverse genetic correlations are observed with polycystic ovary syndrome, fasting insulin levels, type 2 diabetes, triglyceride levels, cardiovascular disease and bone mineral density; and positive genetic correlations are observed with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and adult height. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
