These findings, the evidence of higher effectiveness of MDM2-p53 inhibitors in killing cancer cells overproducing MDM2 protein as a result of MDM2 gene amplification [27], and MDM2 disregulation in merlin-deficient tumors [28], suggest a possible role of MDM2 in malignant mesothelioma cancerogenesis and progression.
