The promyelocytic leukemia gene (PML also known as MYL, RNF71, TRIM19 and PP8675) was first described as a fusion partner of the retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARα), generating the oncogenic protein (PML-RARα), which is present in >98% of APL cases [3]. The gene discussed is RARA; the disease is acute promyelocytic leukemia.
