Regarding the cytokine pattern in schizophrenia, a blunted type 1 [e.g., Interferon(IFN)-gamma, Interleukin(IL)-2, soluble IL-2 receptors] and (compensatory) increased type 2 cytokine pattern (e.g., IL-6, IL-10) have been repeatedly observed in unmedicated schizophrenia patients (Müller and Schwarz, 2006). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and schizophrenia.
