The causative agents of occupational asthma, high-molecular weight (HMW) proteins (e.g., from animals, plants, microorganisms) and low-molecular weight (LMW) chemical agents (e.g., toluene diisocyanate), seem mainly to use different mechanisms to develop asthma, IgE- and non-IgE-mediated mechanism, respectively. The gene discussed is IGHE; the disease is asthma.
