CHI3L1 and Sepsis: We conclude, based on the data presented herein, that there is an apparent interaction between CHI3L1 expression on epithelial surfaces or innate immune cells and the ability of CbpD-expressing PA14 Pseudomonas strain to quickly translocate through critical barriers, thus causing septicemia under conditions where innate immunity is temporarily compromised due to overwhelming SIR such as seen in severe burn injury [9–13].
